New Engine Features for 2026 Revealed

New Engine Features for 2026 Revealed

A deep dive into the ground-breaking features coming to the engine this year, from nanite improvements to lumen upgrades.

As we move further into 2026, we are thrilled to pull back the curtain on the next major iteration of our game engine. This year's focus is on three core pillars: Infinite Detail, Reactive Worlds, and Creator Empowerment.

1. Nanite 2.0: Beyond Static Meshes

Nanite was a game-changer for geometry, but this year we're taking it further. Nanite 2.0 now supports programmable rasterization, allowing for incredibly detailed foliage, flowing water, and deformable terrain—all rendered with sub-pixel precision without the need for manual LODs.

2. Lumen: Real-Time Global Illumination for Everyone

Our global illumination system, Lumen, has received a massive performance boost. It now runs 40% faster on mid-range hardware, making high-fidelity lighting accessible to a broader audience. We've also introduced hardware-accelerated ray tracing for even more realistic reflections and shadows.

3. The New World Partition System

Managing large-scale open worlds is easier than ever with the overhauled World Partition system. It now supports dynamic cell loading and improved streaming, allowing for truly massive environments with zero loading screens.

These features represent just a fraction of what's coming. We've also updated the physics engine for more realistic destruction and introduced a new procedural generation toolkit that helps creators build vast landscapes in minutes rather than months.
